Description: Probably the most common (non-evergreen) small tree on Plum Island. It is also the most common host for the black knot fungus (Apiosporina morbosa). Small shrubby specimens can be distinguished from choke cherries by the smooth margins of the leaves in the summer, and by their tiny buds in winter.
