Description: Its unmistakable cone shape is visible from the upper edge of the salt marsh to the back side of primary dunes, as well as in most highway medians in Massachusetts. Hot dog and hamburger are red cedars. The red cedar is an obligate host in the life cycle of the Cedar Quince Rust (Gymnosporangium clavipes) so common in shadbush on Plum Island.
