Diagnosis: Solitary palms with slender stems to 5 m, pinnate leaves with leaflets usually varying in width, but sometimes almost uniform, held in a plane; inflorescence broom-like with many slender, flattened, yellow rachillae to 25 cm long.

Local Distribution: Atlantic slope below 900 m.

Diversity: 1 species (S. warscewiczianus).

Comments: These understrory plams are very conspicuous while fruiting, because of the broom-like infructescence, with oblong bright-red fruits.
