Cryosophila Arecaceae


Diagnosis: Solitary palms with erect trunks armed with long, branched spines, leaves palmately lobed and compound, with whitish underside.

Similar Genera

Local Distribution: Guacimal River Valley below San Luis (C. grayumii) and barely reaching 700 m on the Atlantic slope (C. warscewiczii).

Diversity: 2 species.

Comments: Crysophila grayummii is known only from two distant populations on the Pacific slope in northern and southern Costa Rica, and can be considered one of our more endangered species.
