Male identification:

  • Wings clear.
  • Small blue postocular spots.
  • Pale colors tan when young, becoming dark blue-black with age and coated with gray pruinosity.
  • Abdomen mostly black, but dorsum of S9 with a pale mark at base.

Female identification:

  • Wings clear.
  • Dorsum of S3 without a broad pale triangle.
  • Dorsum of S10 dark.

Female abdomen length: 30.0

Female hind wing length: 24.0

Habitat: Sunny areas along riffly streams and rivers.

Species range: USA, Mexico, Guatemala to Panama, South America
