Male identification:

  • Head and thorax nearly all blue.
  • Underside of head pale.
  • Abdominal segments all with blue dorsum, except S7 with only a blue basal triangle.
  • Wings weakly shaded tan; antenodal cells 4, 4; pseudostigma light brown.

Female identification:

  • Underside of head pale.

Similar species:

  • Argia fissa

Female hind wing length: 22.0

Local distribution: Mid-elevation dry areas in southern mountains near Loja.

Habitat: Small to medium rivers.

Abundance: Common.
