Male identification:

  • Eyes red.
  • Underside of head black with a narrow cream stripe along eye margin.
  • Abdomen segments 3-10 mostly blue on dorsum.

Female identification:

  • Postocular spots small and tan (compare with sp. X).
  • Underside of head black with a narrow cream stripe along eye margin.
  • S10 blue on dorsum and sides.

Similar species:

Male abdomen length: 28.0

Male hind wing length: 21.0

Local distribution: Western lowlands.

Habitat: Sunny areas on rocky rivers and streams.

Abundance: Common.

Species range: Colombia and Ecuador
