Rhionaeschna cornigera Brauer, 1865Aeshnidae

Male identification:

  • Thorax with two bold lateral stripes with kinks.
  • Abdomen dark with minimal blue and green markings.
  • Sternum of S10 sky blue.

Female identification:

  • Similar to male, but lacks blue trim on S2.
  • Base of wings amber-tinted into the triangle.

Female hind wing length: 42.0

Local distribution: Both slopes to 2000 m.

Habitat: Isolated pools and slow streams in both forest and open areas.

Abundance: Uncommon.

Species range: Mexico, Guatemala to Panama, South America
