Male identification:

  • Labrum, postclypeus and frons red, top and rear of head black, underside half black.
  • Thorax tan to brown with a broad black stripe on carina, often with a short black stripe on mesepimeron.
  • Abdomen uniformly bright red-orange.
  • Wings clear.

Female identification:

  • Labrum, postclypeus and frons light brown, rest of dorsum of head black, underside of head half black, half pale. Thorax beige to tan without dark markings, carina with a broad black stripe. Prothoracic horns absent. Abdomen greenish-beige on sides, mostly black on top.

Size: Very small

Body length: 28.0-31.0

Local distribution: South Pacific lowlands.

Habitat: Ponds and lagunas.

Species range in Middle America: Guatemala to Panama
