Male identification:

  • Wings clear.
  • Small blue postocular spots.
  • Pale colors tan when young, becoming dark blue with age and coated with gray pruinosity.
  • Abdomen mostly black, but dorsum of S9 with a pale mark at base.

Female identification:

  • Wings clear.
  • Dorsum of S3 without a broad pale triangle.
  • Dorsum of S10 dark.

Size: Small

Body length: 34.0-35.0

Local distribution: Both slopes from lowlands to 400 m. Rare on Atlantic side.

Habitat: Sunny areas along riffly streams and rivers.

Species range in Middle America: USA, Mexico, Guatemala to Panama, South America

Female abdomen length: 25-29

Female hindwing length: 20-22
