Male identification:

  • Orange-tinted wings.
  • Large tan postocular spots.
  • Top of thorax with purple reflectance.
  • Top of S9 with a posterior pale mark.

Female identification:

  • Wings tinted yellow.
  • Dorsum of S3 without a broad pale triangle.
  • Dorsum of S10 pale.

Size: Large

Body length: 40.0-42.0

Local distribution: Pacific slope from lowlands to 700 m.

Habitat: Sunny areas along riffly streams and rivers.

Species range in Middle America: USA, Mexico, Guatemala to Costa Rica
