Male identification:

  • Frons black above, lacking a T-shaped mark.
  • Thorax green-brown with large black patch on side.
  • Extensive black at base of wings.

Female identification:

  • Frons black above, lacking a T-shaped mark.
  • Black patch at base of both wings, almost reaching anal loop in hindwing.

Size: Very large

Body length: 79.0-85.0

Local distribution: Lowlands to 800 m on both slopes.

Habitat: Small ponds and pools in forest.

Species range in Middle America: Costa Rica to Panama, South America
