DescriptionA small evergreen fern from a creeping rhizome with once compound leaves. The sori on the underside of the leaf are large and round and lack a covering. The leaflets (pinnae) are widest toward the middle. Another species P. appalachianum likely occurs in the Mount Holyoke Range. The leaflets (pinnae) of the leaf blade in this species are widest at the base.
