Identification
  - Leaves simple, whorled (3 per node), entire, thick.
  - Free stipules.
  - Twig grooved, trunk smooth and pale gray.
  - Large yellow flowers, zygomorphic.
  - Fruit 3-winged.

Diagnosis: Large rain forest trees, with small free stipules, leaves opposite or whorled, entire, with a collecting vein, showy yellow zygomorphic flowers.

Similar families
Caprifoliaceae: no stipules, leaf thin with 1-2 pairs of marginal teeth.
Rubiaceae: interpetiolar stipules present.
