Identification
  - Leaves simple, alternate, and spiraled.
  - Leaf blades narrow elliptic or oblanceolate and crenate.
  - With stipules.
  - Large yellow flowers in leaf axils, 5-parted.
  - Fruit a 3-valved capsule, seeds with red aril.

Diagnosis: Trees and shrubs, one tree species (Erblichia) with tiny free stipules, alternate leaves bunched at twig tips, narrowly elliptic to oblanceolate with narrow base and large crenations, rare tree on lower Pacific slope.

Similar families
Aquifoliaceae: green layer in bark, leaves mostly broadly elliptic, leaf base not long and narrow.
Urticaceae: leaf base not long and narrow, usually pubescent.
