Identification
  - Leaves simple, alternate, entire, distichous.
  - Without stipules.
  - Watery red latex.
  - Stellate hairs.
  - Flowers small, 3-parted, on large axillary inflorescences.
  - Fruit a 2-valved capsule; a single seed with red or white stringy aril.

Diagnosis: Trees, watery red latex, without stipules, leaves simple, alternate, entire, numerous straight lateral veins, stellate hairs, many straight branches radiating horizontally from trunk (myristicaceous branching pattern).

Similar families
Annonaceae: simple hairs, fewer lateral veins, without red sap.
Lauraceae: leaves spiraled, without red sap or stellate hairs, lateral veins fewer and curved.

Diversity: Total: 2 genera, 4 species. Trees: 2 genera, 4 species.
