Identification
  - Leaves opposite, odd-pinnate, serrate.
  - Stipules present.
  - Jointed rachis with stipels.
  - Small white 5-parted flowers in large inflorescences.
  - Fruit a purple berry.

Diagnosis: One tree species, with free stipules, leaves opposite, odd-pinnate, stipels present on rachis, leaflets broadly ovate and serrate.

Local distribution: Mostly cloud forest and Atlantic slope rain forest, but rarely found as low as 1350 m on the Pacific slope.

Similar families
Brunelliaceae: leaflets oblong and pale below with more than 10 lateral veins.
Rutaceae(Zanthoxylum): leaves alternate with pellucid dots.

Diversity: Total: 1 genus, 1 species. Trees: 1 genus, 1 species.

Comments: Most common in high cloud forest.
